Trio AAB were formed in the late '80s when a bass player failed to turn up for a quartet gig, and the Bancroft twins and Kevin MacKenzie decided to go ahead anyway - an experience they found so enjoyable that they've been repeating it at irregular intervals ever since.

During the ensuing 20 years they have issued three critically acclaimed CDs, and developed a reputation for exploring a whole range of influences (their website lists "post Ornette bop, ECM jazz, Celtic folk, drum 'n' bass, the Sound of Music, and indie rock"), but always with an enormous sense of fun. Their entertaining accessibility has made them Festival favourites in France, Holland, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Morocco, and most recently in India, where they closed the 2011 Delhi Jazz Festival before a crowd of 10,000 people!

We're not expecting quite that many at this Lit & Phil gig, which will take place in the library (where fellow Scottish pranksters Brass Jaw went down such a storm last November). But we are confident that, no matter how many are in the audience, everybody will be royally entertained.
