Josh Sinton Trio + Improvisers Workshop Ensemble  -  Sun Nov 13, 2016  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 concessions)
Josh Sinton, a reedsman who favours the lower ends of the register (for this gig he will be focussing on the baritone sax) is a key participant in the creative community that has emerged in Brooklyn over the past decade. A regular member of the Nate Wooley Quintet and Anthony Braxton's Tricentric Orchestra, he also collaborates frequently with such adventurous players as Mary Halvorsen, Ingrid Laubrock and Tom Rainey.

But he has also forged strong links with European musicians, and when he approached us about a gig with bassist Dominic Lash and Cork-based guitarist Han-Earl Park, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss. Josh has been playing with both Dom and Han for many years but in separate contexts, and this will be the first time they’ve come together as a trio, an opportunity to combine their unique takes on free-form improvisation. So this is a gig that promises to be a revelation for them as well as for us.

Support will come from another entirely new group, drawn from participants in the monthly Improvisers Workshops that Jazz North East has been organising over the past couple of years. It was always the intention (or at least the hope) that these would stimulate fresh creative partnerships; that’s just what’s happened, and this is a chance for us all to share in the excitement.

Tickets for this gig are available from Reflex CDs (0191 260 3246) or online from
