Motherese + Jennifer Parry + Zoë Gilby Trio  -  Tue Mar 08, 2016  |  08:00 pm
As part of our 'Women Make Music' series, and celebrating International Women's Day, we present a superbly varied triple bill.

Motherese is led by multi-instrumentalist Aby Vulliamy, whose work on viola, piano, saw and voice has earned her an international reputation, reflected in a wide range of recordings and performances. Her most recent compositions explore the theme of motherhood, and it's this work that she explores in the company of pianist Laura Cole (most recently on Tyneside with her band Metamorphic) and improvising vocalist Maria Jardardottir.

Opening the evening will be Jazz North East favourite Zoë Gilby, a truly adventurous vocalist from whom we have come to expect something different virtually every time she plays a gig for us. For this performance, with regular partners Mark Williams and Andy Champion, she will be concentrating on her own memorable compositions, including a raft of new songs - so whether she subsequently performs them in Uppsala or Ulan Bator, you can hear them first in Newcastle!

Between the two groups, and adding yet another dimension to the evening, local artist Jennifer Parry will present a multimedia performance, manipulating pre-recorded vocals and projections to create a unique and shape-shifting environment.

Tickets for this gig are available from the Lit & Phil (0191 232 0192), Reflex CD (0191 260 3246) or online from
