Improvisers Workshop with Corey Mwamba  -  Sun Feb 03, 2019  |  03:00 pm
It's been a real pleasure at some of our recent monthly Improvisers Workshops to have leading musicians join us as guest mentors. So it's great that for the first workshop of 2019 we'll have the superb vibes player Corey Mwamba filling that role, before he gives an evening performance with his Nth Quartet.

As well as being a superb performer on his instrument, Corey thinks deeply about the whole creative process of improvisation, so this is a tremendous opportuity for local musicians to share his vision and apply it to their own practice.

These Workshops at the Bridge have proved to be a real stimulus to the creative development of local players, with the participants taking the lessons into their own performances, and the workshop group itself testing out its ideas in concert. Using a range of sources as inspiration - texts, graphic scores, game theory, or unfettered free improvisation - players from diverse musical backgrounds have found common ground in pushing their creative boundaries.

In addition to Corey regular workshop leaders John Pope and Wes Stephenson will be on hand to help shape the sessions, but any participants are welcome to bring along ideas to be tried out in a relaxed environment. Relaxed, but also very stimulating . . . there's no charge to take part, so if you feel that you’d like to try stretching yourself musically, with guidance from one of the best in the world, this is the place to be.
