Two of Tyneside’s most original artists come together for what is certain to be an exhilarating double bill - with the strong possibility that the night will end with a short joint set.

Paul Taylor is a superbly accomplished pianist and keyboard player whose improvised music is evocative, alluring and unique; combining unusual harmonies and sonorities with an original and fluid technique. His emergence as one of the most consistently interesting and innovative solo pianists in recent years has been recognised by his selection as one of Jazz North’s roster of ‘Northern Line’ artists, and his playing, eschewing the conventional clichés associated with jazz improvisation in favour of an unorthodox, harmonically complex and often compellingly beautiful musical language, is winning him new fans wherever he performs.

Archipelago, who in their relatively short life as a band have already forged a national reputation, deliver original, genre crossing music that fuses jazz, alt-rock and free improvisation to name a few, taking inspiration from musicians as diverse as Don Cherry, Morphine and Joni Mitchell. Since releasing their debut LP 'Weightless' in 2017, the trio have had national airplay, received a prestigious 'Peter Whittingham Development Award’ from Help Musicians UK, and played up and down the country sharing bills with Binker & Moses, Arun Ghosh and Field Music. If you haven’t yet experienced their their honest, engaged musicianship and compelling live performances, this is the chance to make good the omission!.
