Wooster/Dunmall Quartet featuring Chris Mapp & Mark Sanders  -  Sun Jul 17, 2011  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 7.00 ( £ 5.00 concessions)
When a young player like trumpeter Sam Wooster, who only graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 2009, is able to persuade such internationally acclaimed players as reedsman Paul Dunmall and drummer Mark Sanders to work with him, you sense that he must be something special. And you'd be right.

With bassist Chris Mapp - another mover & shaker in Birmingham's Cobweb Collective - completing the quartet, this is a hugely energetic group that stands comparison with the best American 'fire music' exponents. The interplay between Wooster and Dunmall is sometimes reminiscent of the great pairing of Don Cherry and Albert Ayler (although both players are also absolutely themselves), with torrential support from Mapp and Sanders. Fierce, uncompromising, and exhilarating jazz that takes no prisoners!

This gig is a co-promotion with 'Splinter @ the Bridge', and is financially assisted by Newcastle City Council.
