Inspirational women from history, morning runs under bridges, earthquake swarms in Oklahoma … the starting point for musical compositions can come from many places.

Frequent collaborators and creative kindred spirits Kim Macari and Raymond MacDonald come to the Bridge to deliver a fascinating set of music and discussion as they lead the audience through a selection of their graphic scores, from development to performance. For anyone interested in artistic process, improvisation or curious about how graphic scores become sound, this is an experience not to be missed.

The other half of this double bill promises to be just as rewarding. Canada’s Lori Freedman, one of the world’s greatest bass clarinet players, and a member of such outstanding international groups as the all-women Canadian/Dutch Queen Mab Trio, appeared as a guest at last November’s Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra festival, meeting guitarist George Burt and vibes maestro Corey Mwamba for the first time. She so enjoyed working with them that she was keen to repeat the experience. We’re happy to oblige, and have snapped her up on the back of her appearance at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, re-uniting her with George and Corey for a one-off and probably unrepeatable trio set.
