Swedish trio Plunge work regularly with ECM superstar pinaist Bobo Stenson, but they are an outstanding unit in their own right, playing music which is fully improvised yet unfolds with the tight logic of instant composition.
Andreas Andersson's sax playting is warm and full of direction. Mattias Hjorth's bass is simultaneously free yet anchored in the tradition of such greats as Charlie Haden, and Peter Nilsson's drumming is more about musicality than relentless rhythm and pulse. Together they make music which is full of emotional expression but without ever losing the edge of the seat unpredictability that underpins all the best free improvisation.
Plunge come to Tyneside as part of their first ever UK tour, so this is a great opportunity to be introduced to one of the finest young bands in Scandanavia (no, make that Europe).
