Eric Boeren Quartet  -  Fri Feb 06, 2009  |  08:30 pm
Admission £ 6.00 ( £ 3.00 concessions)
A rare chance to savour a great quartet with a unique approach to free jazz. This amazing group is based around three regular members of the Dutch improv scene (Eric Boeren, Wilbert de Joode, and Sean Bergin - who moved to Amsterdam from his native South Africa in 1975), and completed by the legenadry German drummer Paul Lovens. The group draws on a repertoire made up of the earlky music of free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman abd a number of Boeren's own tunes, moving freely between pieces in a kind of spontaneous medley, with all four sharing the improvisational space. It's a remarkable approach that throws new light on Coleman's original wotk, and the freedoms that he unlocked.
