The Thin Red Line  -  Sun Apr 24, 2011  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 7.00 ( £ 5.00 concessions)
Anglo-Norwegian trio The Thin Red Line is part of a new movement in improvised music which gives equal weight to composed, sometimes highly melodic, material and free improvisation. Placing themselves "somewhere between the traditions of British improv, American free jazz and European and Scandinavian jazz", the group has developed a highly idiosyncratic sound that strives for an ideal balance between all the elements.

Drummer Paul Hession has been a frequent visitor to Jazz North East gigs, both with UK groups such as Hession, Wilkinson & Fell, and with such international stars as Joe McPhee. In The Thin Red Line he's joined by bassist Rus Pearson and Norwegian reedsman Petter Frost Fadnes, now resident in Stavanger, but with long established links with the innovative Leeds improvised music scene. The trio comes to the Bridge as part of a short UK tour to promote their new album 'Alignment".

This gig, a co-promotion with Splinter, is part of Jazz North East's 'On the Outside', with funding assistance from Newcastle City Council.
