Simon Fell visited us twice last year. On both occasions he left listeners slack-jawed with astonishment at his amazing bass playing. Simon returns with a quintet featuring his own compositions, complex and tightly structured jazz charts that still leave plenty of space for the musicians to stretch out, in the vein of Anthony Braxton's work from the 70s, or some of the great Mingus units from a decade earlier. This is a superb band featuring the cream of London's younger free jazz scene: we're getting tham after a session for 'Jazz on 3', but to really get the full palate-smacking flavour there's no better place than live at the Bridge.
