Catatumbo  -  Sun Nov 07, 2010  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 7.00 ( £ 5.00 concessions)
Catatumbo is a remarkable free improvising trio that's indicative of the growing internationalism of the UK scene: German saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock (who now divides her time between London and New York), Spanish percussionist Javier Carmona, and UK bassist Olie Brice.

Ingrid, who has previously built up an admiring fan base on Tyneside with her own quartet and in Tom Arthur's Centripede, has always played with a sense of space that has led her towards more open musical structures, and in Javier and Olie she has found like-minded partners who share her commitment to music that explores the interface between composition and improvisation, with a quiet momentum that is constantly gripping.

This gig is presented by Jazz North East as part of it's 'On the Outside' programme, in collaboration with 'Splinter @ the Bridge', and with financial assistance from Newcastle City Council.
