Anglo-Argentine Jazz Quartet  -  Thu Mar 15, 2001  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 6.00 ( £ 5.00 concessions)
The Anglo-Argentine Jazz Quartet is a one-off in all sorts of ways. It's the first time George Haslam has managed to bring over some of the musicians from Argentina with whom he has worked and recorded since 1991; it's the first time that jazz has embraced much of the Argentinian musical heritage (there's a lot more than tango); and it's the first time in the North-East that Haslam has used his second horn, the Hungaraian tarogato! But there's no way that this is just a curiosity act - it's actually superb music, which shows that improvisation knows no national boundaries.
