Zoe Rahman Solo  -  Fri Sep 29, 2017  |  01:00 pm
Admission £ 10.00 ( £ 8.00 concessions)
When we launched our 'Women Make Music' series back in 2015 Zoe Rahman was one of the first artists we invited, and her solo gig at Newcastle University was a brilliant, multi-faceted delight. So it's a pleasure to have her back, this time giving us a lunchtime concert at the Lit & Phil.

Zoe has rightly been described as "one of the brightest stars on the contemporary jazz scene", and it's in her all too rare solo performances that the full range of her skills and interests become most apparent.

When she was voted Perrier Young Jazz Musician of the Year in 1999 it was already apparent that she had successfully merged the precision of her early classical training with a free spirited jazz approach developed during her studies at Berklee. But she subsequently also dug back into her Bangladeshi heritage, a quest that led to the acclaimed album 'Where Rivers Meet'. In fact any number of influences meet in a Zoe Rahman performance, and this solo gig is likely to range across Bengali folk tunes, original compositions, and classics from the likes of Ellington and Monk, all delivered with great musicality and utter enchantment.
