Samuel Eagle's Spirit Sextet  -  Tue Jun 13, 2017  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 10.00 ( £ 8.00 concessions)
London-based saxophonist Samuel Eagles returns for a third gig at the Globe, and the word of mouth enthusiasm that has followed his previous visits - "Eagles can hold his own with any alto player in the UK" reported one listener - surely makes this new appearance a 'must hear' date.

And new it certainly is, for this is a first time on Tyneside for his recently formed sextet 'Spirit', touring to promote their debut CD 'Ask, Seek, Knock'. The band includes many of the most exciting young players on London's contemporary post-bop scene, including long time associate Ralph Wyld on vibes and Sam's saxophonist brother Duncan (himself the leader of the fine trio Partikel).

One-time Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint has written that "Samuel Eagles is rapidly standing out from what is today’s norm, with a fresh ear for the music and an exciting approach to improvisation". There's not the slightest doubt that he is en route to becoming a major figure on the jazz scene - it's good to have this chance to catch up on his progress.

This gig is a co-promotion with the Jazz Co-op
