Led Bib @ The Bridge  -  Sun May 07, 2017  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 concessions)
Since their first appearance at the Cluny around a dozen years ago Led Bib have played at just about every recognised jazz venue on Tyneside - except the Bridge Hotel. Now we’re pleased to welcome them back to complete the set!

One of the most adventurous and audacious outfits on today's UK jazz scene, Led Bib have built a reputation over the course of eight albums for expansive improvisations and treks into genre-defying music of throbbing intensity. And there’s no sign of them losing their taste for pushing the boundaries. Indeed, their new album ‘Umbrella Weather’ has been hailed by critics as “a gonzo jazz gem” and “a push towards a resurgent future”, while the Guardian called it “a triumphant comeback”. (In fact the band has never been away, although leader Mark Holub’s relocation to Vienna slowed their touring schedule for a while.)

So it’s all still there - the sheer vitality, the in your face urgency of their music that has drawn comparisons with artists as diverse as John Zorn, Miles Davis and Captain Beefheart . . . but with an entirely original approach that might incorporate pitch-bending North African inflections, thundering rock power, Zappa-like hooks, and even a little amiable folk-dancing! Every Led Bib gig is an unpredictable joy - it’s great to have them back.

Tickets for this gig are available from Reflex CD (0191 260 3246) or online from
