Seamus Blake Organ Trio  -  Tue Feb 07, 2017  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 10.00 ( £ 8.00 concessions)
If you were searching for a contemporary saxophonist who combines sophistication, bold improvisations, and sheer swagger, you needn't look further than Seamus Blake, who has been a major presence on the New York scene for around 20 years.

Renowned as a featured soloist with the Mingus Big Band, he is equally impressive in small group settings, and the trio that he brings to the Black Swan is an ideal showcase for his powerful imagination. In fact organist Ross Stanley and drummer James Maddren were with him last time he visited Tyneside, back in September 2011 in a quartet led by Irish guitarist Mark McKnight. It was a superb gig, so it's great to have the three of them reunited in a tour set up by NorVol, the network of Northern jazz promoters.

The combination of tenor sax, organ and drums has produced some hugely punchy and memorable music over the decades; when the participants are as good as Blake, Stanley & Maddren, you can be certain that you're in for a powerhouse treat.

This gig is a co-promotion with the Jazz Café, and is financially assisted by the Orpeus Jazz Project

Tickets for this gig are available from the Jazz Café (0191 222 9882), Reflex CD (0191 260 3246) or online from
