Ellery Eskelin Trio  -  Fri Oct 14, 2016  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 12.00 ( £ 10.00 concessions)
If there is one figure from the downtown New York scene whose appearance on Tyneside is long overdue, saxophonist Ellery Eskelin is the man. With an utterly distinctive sound, and a highly personal approach to the interface between composition and improvisation, he has been a key figure for nearly three decades, yet this will be his first visit to us.

He comes to the Globe for the final gig of a short tour set up by NorVol, the network of Northern jazz promoters, and linking him with guitarist Chris Sharkey and keyboards original Matt Bourne, both of whom have played many hugely exciting gigs for Jazz North East in recent years. So this looks certain to be a tremendously productive set-up for Ellery, allowing him to develop his own ideas, while in turn being stimulated by such constantly inventive partners.

So this is a rare opportunity to hear a musician who has deep roots in the jazz tradition while being passionately committed to a personal creative development. An unmissable revelation.
