Pianist Sean Foran has risen to prominence in recent years, both in his native Australia but also more widely, primarily through his leadership of the progressive trio Trichotomy. But he is also a great enthusiast for working in a wide range of combinations with friends across the jazz spectrum, and it's a real pleasure for us to welcome him to the Bridge in the company of Manchester-based guitarist Stuart McCallum.

Sean and Stuart first met when the pianist was doing a Masters degree at Leeds College of Music, and they've subsequently worked together whenever an opportunity arose. As a consequence there is an intimate chemistry in the musical relationship, with an approach that is rhythmic and hypnotic but always with a clear sense of focus. This is a great opportunity to hear two wide-ranging artists exploring each other's creative ideas.

An opening set come from Tyneside's very own pianistic polymath Alan Law, who is equally at home driving Cuban-inspired grooves or harmonically grounded stream-of-consciousness improv. Jazz North East gave him carte blanche to fill this slot with whatever takes his free-ranging fancy, and he's using the opportunity to unveil a brand new trio with bassist Katy Trigger and drummer Matti Ross, delivering what he describes as "rather brash" original tunes, interspersed with "ambient freer moments". Sounds tasty!
