Corrie Dick : Impossible Things  -  Sun Sep 11, 2016  |  08:00 pm
Over the past three or four years we've had several visits from Corrie Dick, taking the drum chair in other people's bands, and we've come to expect great things from him. But maybe not 'Impossible Things'?

Yet that's the title of his debut album as leader, and it's right on the button. The mercurial diversity of his original tunes, the rhythmic euphoria that steers the music through episodes of complex intensity and stretches of panoramic beauty, and the evocative lyrics written for several of the tunes - all demonstrate a breadth of vision remarkable (if not quite impossible) in a musician still only in his mid-20s.

What's more, he's pulled together a band composed of some of the most exciting and in-demand young players on the UK scene, with the likes of Laura Jurd and Alice Zawadski making huge waves as bandleaders in their own rights. But here they come together to interpret Corrie's music, combining a multifaceted ensemble sound with a string of outstanding solos. It's not often that we manage to squeeze an 8-piece band into the Bridge, and it's even rarer to feature one of this extraordinary quality . . . surely impossible to miss!
