Roller Trio + Leash  -  Sun Jan 10, 2016  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 concessions)
It seems hard to believe, but it's more than four years since Roller Trio made their first Tyneside appearance - 23rd October 2011 to be precise - right here at the Bridge Hotel. At that time they were just setting out on a journey that has taken them to star billing at jazz festivals and nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. But the band haven't rested on their laurels, and their second album 'Fracture' sees them expanding their sonic palette, with a varied range of compositions that contain more light and shade, although still retaining the irresistibly catchy hooks and riffs that make their live performances so exciting. It's great to have them back where it (almost) all started.

For this gig they're doubled up with Leash, in which three of the North East's finest - Mark Williams, Andy Champion and Adrian Tilbrook - take some of their favourite jazz standards (plus a handful of originals) for a brisk walk. Previous outings for the trio have featured classics from the likes of Monk, Rollins, Wayne Shorter and Ornette Coleman, but the three musicians have such a copious compendium of great tunes at their disposal that almost anything could be given the unleashed Leash treatment. And be all the better for it.

Tickets for this gig are available from Reflex Records (0191 260 3246) or online from
