Tipping Point + The Long Lonesome Go  -  Sun Nov 08, 2015  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 student) ( £ 6.00 concessions)
For the first of our monthly 'Splinter' double bills at the Bridge, we're pulling together two outstanding bands, one based in Leeds, and the other from right here on Tyneside.

Tipping Point started life as the James Mainwaring Quartet, under which name they gave perhaps their first ever public performance at the Cluny back in November 2013. If that gig felt a little tentative at some points, by the time they returned to Tyneside last year they had adopted the new name, and had achieved an almost telepathic tightness as a unit - a tightness that paradoxically gave them free rein to cut loose! So brilliantly structured compositions serve as launchpads for improvisations that move through playful melodies, reflective ambience and intense aggression. The superb quality of the band has been recognised in their selection for this year's 'Northern Line' scheme, showcasing a dozen of the most exciting bands in the Northern region; it's a pleasure to welcome them back to the Bridge.

Local trio The Long Lonesome Go make their second appearance for us within a few months, having stepped in at very short notice to play a short support set at the Lit & Phil when Mette Rasmussen was delayed by flight problems. It was a reminder of just what mesmerising, if uncategorisable, music is made by Paul Taylor, Jason Etherington and Christian Alderson (their own website uses the tags experimental, avant, free improvisation, and noise). This is freely improvised music that in which the three artists immerse themselves in a journey through sound, embracing space, silence, and passages of luminescent beauty.

Tickets for this gig are available from Reflex Records (0191 260 3246) or online from
