No celebration of women in jazz would be complete without an evening with Lindsay Hannon, so it was a no-brainer to include her in our 'Women Make Music' series. Since its formation in 2012 her quartet, the Lindsay Hannon Plus, has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most enjoyable vocal-led outfits on the North East scene. Equally at home with full-blast blues and thoughtful, spacious ballads, Lindsay and her band mix up the genres with great skill and an unfailingly electric atmosphere.

But Lindsay has never been content to rest on her laurels, and has constantly expanded the repertoire, including an increasingly impressive array of original compositions. For this concert she will be unveiling a brand new suite of songs entitled 'Chalk Outline', exploring ideas of attachment and exile, environment and biology, expressing the ways in which we define ourselves. The new songs have been written very much with the sound of guitar as part of the music, so Mark Williams steps in to the band in place of the normal piano.

Following two sets from the quartet, Lindsay will also host a late night jam session at which local musicians will be able to join the band in some classic jazz standards.

Admission to the concert costs £5.00, but is free to musicians taking part in the jam session.

This concert is part of Jazz North East's 'Women Make Music' series, made possible by financial support from PRS for Music.
