Ruth Lambert Trio  -  Wed Dec 17, 2014  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 concessions)
WHILE many contemporary jazz singers look to the world of pop music for their inspiration, Ruth Lambert draws her pedigree from the classic jazz vocal tradition that goes back to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, with Julie London, Anita O'Day and Carmen McRae as particular inspirations. She also shares with those greats the ability to hold her own in front of a big band (she works regularly with the Customs House Big Band) or to deliver a subtle and sophisticated up close performance with small groups.

Her regular trio, with guitarist Giles Strong and bassist Mick Shoulder, is a superb showcase for this more intimate side of Ruth's range, with a repertoire that embraces gems from the Great American Songbook alongside a judiciously selected handful of more recent tunes and an increasingly assured array of her own original compositions. A review of a recent gig described the trio as "a winning formula", with Ruth herself "in prime form", and the regular plea from audiences has been "When's the CD coming out?".

Well, now it's ready, and it's to be launched at this Jazz Café gig. So, a chance to hear a great singer with a great band, and to stock up on as good a Christmas present as anybody could hope to receive!
