Christmas with Djangologie  -  Thu Dec 12, 2013  |  08:00 pm
Admission £ 8.00 ( £ 6.00 concessions)
IT'S a good few years since Jazz North East last ventured on a Christmas Party, and it wasn't our first idea with this gig - we just wanted to put on one of our favourite local bands. But when the manager at the Bridge Hotel said "Will this be a Christmas special?", we thought "Why not?".

Actually it could be argued that every Djangologie gig is a bit of a party, with the high entertainment quotient of the quartet's Hot Club inspired music, and leader Mick Shoulder's hilarious Franglais announcements. But this doesn't obscure the high level of musicianship achieved by the four participants. They clearly all share a deep love for and understanding of the original music of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, but this is merely the starting point for performances that not only breathe fresh life into a selection of Hot Club classics, but also apply the same élan to some excellent original compositions.

So this is music to be enjoyed at several levels: it's historically rewarding, it's musically exceptional, and it's exhilaratingly entertaining. In fact just the thing for a Christmas party, to get Ebenezer Scrooge casting humbug aside and calling for a fat goose.

This gig is promoted with the assistance of Jazz North.
