Michael Garrick | Back

Michael Garrick has been on the UK scene since the 1950s, but really started to make waves from the latter part of the decade, initially as one of the most active members of the 'Poetry & Jazz' movement, and later as pianist with the hugely popular Don Rendell-Ian Carr Quintet (for whom he wrote some of their most distinctive tunes). He has continued to be a highly respected figure amongst other musicians, both as performer and composer, but his work in jazz education has limited his touring activities, so that he has never achieved quite the prominence with jazz fans that his skillful and sensitive playing really deserves.
