Jeb Bishop | Back

Chicago-based trombonist Jeb Bishop first came to international prominence in the late 1990s as a member of Ken Vandermark's quintet (with whom he sometimes also played guitar). He still works occasionally with Vandermark and other leading members of the Chicago scene, but has also forged a significant relationship with European improvisers, being a frequent member of Peter Brötzmann's Tentet and Alex von Schlippenbach's Globe Unity Orchestra.

His playing has been described as "an 'out' cross between Bill Harris and Tricky Sam Nanton", with a range that moves from fat-toned tailgate funk to controlled use of multiphonics, with superb use of a variety of mutes.
