Learn about Jazz North East and what we do.

Chris Wallace | Back

Born in Canada in 1971, drummer Chris Wallace spent most of the 1990s playing rock music throughout North America and Europe, but around 2000 he moved to Edinburgh and began to dedicate himself to jazz, working with many of the up and coming contemporary Scottish players such as pianist Paul Harrison and guitarist Graeme Stephen, and forming the trio NeWt with Stephen and Australian trombonist Chris Greive.

He then relocated to the Netherlands for a couple of years, returning to Edinburgh with newly forged links to the European scene, these leading to a fruitful collaboration between NeWt and German reeds player Silke Eberhard.

As well as his work with NeWt, Chris is also a member of violinist Vicky Fifield's quartet, and leads his own more straightahead group Loose Grip.
