Alan Wilkinson | Back
Saxophones & Voice

Saxophonist Alan Wilkinson has been a significant voice on the free jazz & improv scene since the late 1970s, although he is probably best known as a member of the take no prisoners trio Hession, Wilkinson & Fell (with drummer Paul Hession and bassist Simon Fell) which stripped the paint from many a venue between 1989 and around 2001. His association with Hession goes back to his days at Leeds University (where he trained as a painter before switching to music full-time in 1979), and they have worked together in many different contexts. But he has also worked with just about every other significant artist on the European scene, including Peter Brtzmann, possibly the only other player who matches him for sheer volume and intensity.
