Clarence Penn is one of the most sought-after drummers of his generation on the New York scene because of his great versatility and his harmonic openness. Encouraged early in his career by Wynton Marsalis, he worked with Dizzy Gillespie when barely out of his teens, and then went on to spend several years with legendary vocalist Better Carter. He has subsequently played with many of the stars of contemporary American jazz, as well as leading and recording with his own quartet
