Emile Parisien | Back

Born in 1982, saxophonist Emile Parisien was only 11 years old when he became one of the first students at Marciac College's youth jazz classes, taking lessons from such visiting notables as Wynton Marsalis, Johnny Griffin and Bobby Hutcherson. The in 1996 he took up a place at the Toulouse Conservatoire to study classical and contemporary music. While still 18 he moved to Paris, already committed to life as a jazz musician, and rapidly establishing himself as one of the vital new voices on the local scene. Inspired by 20th century composers as well as saxophone giants such as John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter, in 2004 he formed his own quartet to develop his own music, and widely recognised as probably the most important French saxophonist of his generation.
